Book Review: A Taste of Greek Summer – Mandy Baggot 🥙🥙🥙

You know that it is almost Summer Holiday season when the new Mandy Baggot book lands on our bookstore shelves. Singlehandedly promoting Greek tourism her books have become the accompaniment to many a holiday break. In her newest book we are transported to the beautiful island of Corfu. Lydia Broom has been living her second best life. When her dreams of becoming a successful chef were thwarted she found herself a new career as a restaurant reviewer for Luxe Living, a high end magazine. It isn’t perfect but she still gets to dip into her passion for food.

With the magazine looking for a new direction Lydia and her colleague Caroline head over to the Greek island to plan an edition of Luxe Living dedicated to the pleasures to be found on Corfu. Caroline’s idea of culinary appreciation is adding extra chilli sauce to your gyro after more than a few local beers so Lydia has got her work cut out keeping everything on track.

Soon her path crosses with that of Thanos, the adonis of a chef who has created the most flavourful food she has tasted since her chef mentor Mario had died. Thanos’s passion for his craft really excites both her taste buds and her libido and soon Lydia is questioning the existence that she had created for herself. Perhaps it really is possible to have everything that you desire…

Lydia’s story is fun – and left me feeling quite hungry most evenings – but it didn’t quite grab me the way that most of the other books had. Perhaps I’m just not interested in the chef type – even if they are as as delicious as Thanos!

I love sharing my favourite books with friends - nearly always spoiler-free as I hate reading a synopsis of the whole book in other reviews.
