I really should stop choosing books that I think that I SHOULD read. It rarely turns out well! Six Four is a monster of a book at 640 pages and is a translation from the original Japanese.

The premise of the story was pretty sound. Fourteen years ago a seven year old girl is kidnapped. A large ransom is requested that is duly paid by her parents but Shoko Amamiya is found dead and the perpetrator is never found.

I was expecting the book to be more of an investigation into this unsolved crime but it turns out to be more of a police procedural which can be a little tedious after a while. The biggest problem that I had with the book is probably cultural. A lot of the names were very similar and it was often difficult trying to work out who was who as I was reading.

In all honestly I slogged through the book to find out what had really happened in the crime but there were so many loose ends and unanswered questions that it all felt as though I’d been punished for my perseverance. If you read this and honestly enjoy it then you’re a more patient person than me.
