Finally a New Music Friday that I can get really excited about. Ever since the Global Friday release date was introduced last July there haven’t been many truly great Indie rock albums about to stir the emotions.
Today sees the release of “The Ride” from Welsh rockers Catfish and the Bottlemen. No worries about a difficult second album with these guys. It is one of those albums that is just jam packed with hits. All big anthemic tunes that will sound fantastic at all the festivals this summer.
Favourite tunes already include 7 and Oxygen although honestly I’m struggling not to sing along with most tracks. It already sounds like my feel-good album of the summer.
Band of Skulls are an English rock band from Southampton. They got their big break when their song “Friends” was included on the Twilight:New Moon soundtrack.
“By Default” is the highly anticipated fourth album from them and has a very different feel to the first three. The songs are shorter and punchier. They exude confidence, a band at one with the following that they have garnered world-wide. It takes a bit more listening than the Catfish album – probably because it is so different from their previous music. It has a richness and a depth that they’ve never really exhibited before.

I love sharing my favourite books with friends - nearly always spoiler-free as I hate reading a synopsis of the whole book in other reviews.
