You know what you are getting when you pick up a Kelly Jamieson ice hockey novel. A story where the Man of the Match is a ripped but flawed hockey god and the heroine is a bit of a kickass with her own back story. Unlike some other series you get the feeling that Kelly really likes the game and can write pretty knowledgably about game plays and penalties creating match situations that actually feel quite tense, games that matter.
Jared Rupp has played for the Chicago Aces since he got drafted to the NHL. Now thirty he’s pushing himself to stay fit for that next elusive Stanley Cup win while preparing for a post hockey future with the Sin Bin, his bar and upmarket restaurant.
Sidney Frayne is used to men hitting on her bars but after her divorce she has sworn off men. Her ex did such a number on her that she fell apart for quite a while and it was only best friend Frankie who managed to pull her back from the brink. Sitting at the bar in the Sin Bin she chats to the guy next to her pulling apart the fairly mediocre cocktail list. This is Sidney’s area of expertise. A mixologist by trade Jared soon hires her to help turn around the profits in the bar. And it doesn’t hurt that it means that he’ll have to see a lot more of her.
Sensing the instant heat between them Sidney tries to back off. She doesn’t do relationships and when she finds out that he’s a big shot NHL star she really doesn’t want to be a puck bunny. Jared has other plans though and is starting to realise that life as a playboy batchelor isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
Top Shelf is a sweet romance with a credible couple and as it is the third book in the Aces series you get a feel for the way the club ticks and there are guest appearances from the stars of the previous two books. You don’t get many erotic Adult Romance novels where you get so involved with the characters that at one point you get all misty eyed. Although you can read this as a standalone story I thoroughly recommend that you pick up the first two in this series and catch up with the rest of the team. Go Aces!

I love sharing my favourite books with friends - nearly always spoiler-free as I hate reading a synopsis of the whole book in other reviews.
